Colour: London gets a new injection!
Exciting news for those of us who are missing the Jelly Baby family of sculptures by
Mauro Perucchetti, temporarily installed in Marble Arch a few years ago.
Inspirational US artist Dale Chihuly, who makes magnificent, large scale glass sculptures
is rumoured to have been commissioned to brighten up this otherwise not very colourful part
of town. It seems Chihuly is planning to incorporate giant glass petals into the design of a
17 story apartment building. We can’t wait!
Two favourite Chihuly works can be seen in London: the stunning Rotunda chandelier which
hangs permanently in the main entrance of the V&A museum never fails to raise the spirits.
In April this year his Sun (previously in Kew Gardens) was assembled in Berkeley Square,
where its glowing colours stand out against the surrounding greens. It makes a spectacular
sight, too, when lit at night.
Not sure how long it will be there, so bask in its glow it while you can!
