New After Josef Albers Rug
So excited to be launching new rug designs at Decorex this September!
They include one inspired by another of my favourite artists, Josef Albers, whose use of
saturated colour I have always admired. His book ‘Interaction of Color’ (recently
republished in a 50th anniversary edition) is one of the most important works on the subject ever written.
Albers was born in Germany where he worked as a schoolteacher before becoming an artist. Initially a printmaker, his first public commission was for a stained glass window, and he designed furniture as well. He joined the Bauhaus as a teacher, working with Walter Gropius, Oskar Schlemmer, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. With the closure of the Bauhaus under Nazi pressure, Albers moved to the USA where he lived the rest of his life.

auctioned by Phillips 2011
Accomplished in many media, and teacher of an impressive number of artists, he is best known as a colour theorist. His most famous works are the great many paintings and prints that make up the series Homage to the Square. These show a very disciplined approach, with squares of solid colour inside one another.
I pay homage to Josef Albers with the After Josef Albers Rug, available in two combinations of colour; one inspired by the brilliant, warm blues of cornflowers, the other of a tropical sunset.
To see these and my other new rug designs, see us at the internationally renowned show Decorex, this year in the wonderful surroundings of Syon Park, London, 18 – 21 September. We look forward to meeting you there!
